Time Until alternatives for Android: when to switch, or stay
Decide whether to keep Time Until or consider another Android countdown app. Compare recurrence, cloud backup and local workflows before moving your events.

Soon & Then is our own app, being prepared for its first Android beta. If Time Until already meets your needs, changing apps is not automatically an improvement. This comparison uses official Play descriptions checked on 13 October 2026 and our source-checked app, rather than invented hands-on scores.
Start with the feature you would miss
Time Until’s listing advertises countdowns and days-since counts, repeat intervals from hourly through yearly or custom, reminders, photo and video backgrounds, local backup and shareable Live Links. Premium is described as adding unlimited active countdowns, cloud backups, more styling and an ad-free experience. The listing was updated on 11 October 2026.
If you use a video background, a custom repeat interval or a cloud-backed collection, treat it as a requirement. Our app’s reviewed repeat choices and local ZIP backups are not interchangeable with those advertised features. Moving simply because another screenshot looks calmer could remove something you rely on.
Match an alternative to the reason for changing
| Requirement | Candidate and reason | Check before switching |
|---|---|---|
| A portable file and several visible events | Countdown Star advertises export including wallpapers, resizable multi-event widgets and named time zones. | Do not assume its export reads Time Until backups. Annual recurrence is not proof of custom intervals. |
| Lunar dates or an anniversary story | TheDayBefore advertises lunar dates, milestone notifications, Stories and Recommended events. | Decide whether you want those social features and review its optional permissions. |
| A local personal date and unsaved calculation | Soon & Then offers source-checked photo moments, local storage and Quick Look. | No public install yet; no hosted cloud sync, video background or Time Until file import established. |
These are different workflows, not a rating ladder. Countdown Star’s advertised automatic backup and export deserve a closer look if portability matters. TheDayBefore is more relevant to lunar-calendar or story/community needs than to an unsaved date calculation. Soon & Then’s Quick Look answers a date question without creating another event; it still remembers its latest inputs locally.
If a decorative widget is the whole requirement, compare the actual space on your phone. A “resizable” label is not a promise that every launcher offers every shape or that every layout includes ticking seconds.
Separate advertising, billing and event storage
The Time Until, Countdown Star and TheDayBefore listings all show ads and in-app purchases. We did not verify Time Until’s or TheDayBefore’s current price or purchase duration. Countdown Star explicitly describes a one-time Remove Ads purchase. Do not mistake an unspecified Premium upgrade for a lifetime licence.
Time Until’s Data safety summary says it may collect app info/performance and IDs and share app info/performance. TheDayBefore declares collection of personal info, app info/performance and IDs, with no third-party sharing. Countdown Star’s summary names location, app activity and two further categories for collection/sharing. Those are dated developer declarations, not independently audited findings or evidence that one app is unsafe.
Local storage and cloud backup answer different questions. A product may keep your event file on the phone while advertising components process other data. When comparing our local storage and export boundaries, remember that exported ZIPs are unencrypted and that a chosen cloud file provider has its own rules.
Make a reversible switch, if it is worthwhile
Write down two representative events: one all-day birthday and one exact-time appointment with its zone. Note the original repeat settings and save a backup using the existing app’s documented workflow. Keep that backup and the old installation until you have checked the new collection.
Recreate a small test set manually unless the receiving product explicitly supports the file format. Check the displayed day, past-date behaviour, reminder offset and widget placement. A photo card can look correct while following next year’s date instead of continuous days since; the count-up guide explains that distinction in our app.
Neither this article nor a shared ZIP extension establishes cross-app migration. Avoid clearing storage or cancelling a service that holds your only copy before verifying where the dates and photographs are recoverable.
When keeping Time Until makes sense
Keep it on the shortlist if its advertised recurrence, cloud backup, Live Links or video styling is the feature you need. Consider the alternatives when a specific different workflow matters, not because a comparison tells you to “upgrade” without evidence.
TheDayBefore’s listing was updated on 20 September 2026 and Countdown Star’s on 15 September. Recheck current terms and device compatibility at the linked sources before purchasing. Product names are their owners’ marks; this is an independent comparison, not an affiliation or a claim that Soon & Then replaces every established app.
We’re getting Soon & Then ready for its first Android testers.
