How to check a date without saving an event

Use Quick Look to compare a date, time and time zone without adding a saved moment. Understand what is remembered locally and why it does not create a widget.

Published · Checked

Sometimes you want an answer, not another card on the Dashboard. Quick Look in Soon & Then lets you check how far away a date is, or how long it has been, without saving a moment.

Open the date check

On the Dashboard, tap the clock-shaped Quick Look button beside the plus button. Choose Date and select the day you want to check. The result updates within Quick Look; it does not add an event to Dashboard, Grid or Timeline.

This is useful for comparing two possible trip dates or checking the distance from a past milestone before deciding whether to save it.

Check the same date in different ways

With All day on, Quick Look shows Days, Calendar and Sleeps. Turn All day off to choose a time and see the Days & time result as well. Use Time zone to match the date or appointment you actually mean.

The Calendar result separates calendar years, months, weeks and days. Sleeps uses the difference between dates, not your sleeping pattern. A past date is shown as days since, including in the Sleeps result; it is not a count of sleeps already taken.

Understand what is remembered

“No saved event” does not mean “nothing stored anywhere”. The app remembers the last Quick Look date, time, all-day choice and time zone locally so you can revisit the calculation. It does not turn those inputs into a named event or attach a photograph.

Tap Reset to return the check to its default starting point. If you are reviewing a sensitive date on a shared phone, remember that reopening Quick Look may otherwise show the previous inputs.

Save only if you want an ongoing moment

Quick Look has no saved event for a widget to refer to. If a date becomes something you want to see every day, create a normal moment using the Dashboard’s plus button and verify the same settings there.

Before copying the date into a saved event, read all-day versus exact-time countdowns. Changing All day or the zone can change the answer, even when the date displayed looks similar. Quick Look is a useful way to spot that difference before filling your Dashboard with test cards.

We’re getting Soon & Then ready for its first Android testers.
